Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted its latest AWS Summit this week in New York, highlighting the company’s strategic focus on artificial intelligence (AI). As AWS marks its success over the past two decades rooted in cloud computing, it is now steering towards the burgeoning field of generative AI. With the emergence of agentic AI, AWS is poised to explore new horizons.

Key Announcements from AWS Summit New York 2025

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

Security and governance remain pivotal concerns for enterprises leveraging AI agents and generative AI. Organizations need assurance that their AI services are secure and compliant with regulations like GDPR. AWS introduces AgentCore, a new addition to its managed generative AI service, Amazon Bedrock. Designed to tackle security and governance challenges, AgentCore ensures reliability while allowing AI agents to operate autonomously.

AgentCore comprises seven distinct services:

– Gateway : Provides secure access to tools like APIs and Lambda functions.
– Browser Tool : Enables agents to access websites securely via a cloud-based browser.
– Memory : Facilitates the creation of context-aware agents with long-term and short-term memory.

AWS claims that these features help developers transition AI agents from proof of concept to scalable applications capable of serving millions of users.

AI Agents and Tools in AWS Marketplace

For organizations lacking the capacity to build their agentic AI solutions, AWS introduced a significant development. Swami Sivasubramanian, AWS VP for Agentic AI, emphasized the importance of providing enterprises with improved access to AI agents.

“Building specialized agents in-house demands expertise across diverse domains, beyond just large language models,” Sivasubramanian noted. “No organization can master everything, nor should they aim to. Just like today’s software ecosystem thrives on third-party APIs, future AI agents will need to integrate specialized capabilities from various sources.”

AWS’s new AI Agents and Tools service in the AWS Marketplace is designed to facilitate this access. Customers can “discover, buy, deploy, and manage AI agents and tools from leading providers.” Notable partners mentioned during the keynote include Anthropic, Brave, Snowflake, IBM, and Agentforce.

Amazon S3 Vectors

The final announcement merges AWS’s cloud storage expertise with its AI ambitions. Amazon S3 Vectors introduces cloud object storage with native vector support for AI workloads. AWS asserts that this feature can reduce vector storage and query costs by “up to 90% compared to conventional methods.”

S3 Vectors seamlessly integrates with Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases and OpenSearch Service, enhancing and optimizing RAG and vector search operations. Sivasubramanian described the service as “ideal for infrequent query workloads like batch processing and non-real-time agentic applications.”
